Riverside’s Black History Parade marks 40 years of pride. Members of the U.S. Army JROTIC participate with the expo themed, “it still Takes A village” In downtown Riverside, CA., Saturday, February 9th 2019. Black history month was created in 1926 in the United States by historian Carter G. Woodson with Association for the study of Negro life and history announced the second week of February to be “Negro history week”.This explains why it takes place in February 
The U.S. isn’t the only Country to celebrate Black History Month.Canada and the United Kingdom also participated in the event. Canada falls in February as well, but the U.K.’s occurs in October. Germany and the Netherlands play in this event as well.
Since 1928 every Black History week or month has had a theme. They have these themes to recognize key events or topics that should be highlighted during the years celebration. In 1976, president Gerald R. Ford officially recognized Black History month by calling it a moment for the public to “seize the opportunity to honor the to neglected accomplishments of black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout history. “2019 theme was Black Migrations emphasizes the movement of people of African descent to new destinations and subsequently to new social realities.
There are 45 Million Black people in the United States. Something that teaches us about Black History Month is how important the role that the African-American community play in American society. By 2060, it is estimated that the black community in the U.S. will have grown to 74.5 million people which will make up 17.9 percent of the national population.
