Amber Thorneycroft Recognized at Service To Youth Awards

AwardCongratulations to our very own Amber Thorneycroft on being recognized for her commitment to underserved and underrepresented girls in San Bernardino by the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission of San Bernardino.

Amber was celebrated on October 15, 2015 at the 31st Annual Recognition of Service To Youth Awards.

Ms. Thorneycroft is a Community Development Manager for San Gorgonio Council Girl Scouts. In her leadership position, she believes in making programs accessible to all youth, regardless of their individual situations. She strongly believes in building up our youth by giving them opportunities to grow and learn. She has created partnerships with agencies such as CASA, Housing Authority and San Bernardino County Probation, and educated the community to teach that Girl Scouts turns no girl away.

IMG_2202These partnerships provide an opportunity for all girls to be able to become a Girl Scout. These partners have helped provide resources to pay for membership fees for girls who would not otherwise be able to afford it. Inclusion for all girls has been her goal and is what continues to drive her. A great example of her dedication is when Ms. Thorneycroft brought the positive impact of Girl Scouting into churches and housing projects of our communities lower socioeconomic areas such as Waterman Gardens and Maplewood Homes.

When no one from the community volunteered to be a troop leader, Ms. Thorneycroft stepped in and created a four week session for the girls and planned a field trip to take them to the San Diego Zoo to provide an enriching experience outside of their community. Amber is very passionate about her work; she is the perfect example of how one individual can make a difference in the lives of hundreds of children, youth and young adults. She is not only a role model to the youth she serves, but also to her colleagues and the community.
