When asked what the girls should do, Juliette responded, “What do the girls want to do?” Now they can really answer the question.
Have you heard the big news?
There will be four Outdoor Badges added to program in fall 2015—one each at Brownie, Junior, Cadette, and Senior levels.
But, that’s not the most exciting part.
During the National Council Session in Salt Lake City, Anna Maria announced that starting in the fall 2015 program year, girls will lead with their voices through an annual national voting process to select the badges they can earn! That’s right. Girl-led voting for new badges!
This year, there will be two rounds of polling: First, girls will vote on which content area they’re interested in within the Outdoor category (i.e.: Outdoor Recreation, Outdoor Environment, or Outdoor Survival). Then, once we have a majority vote on the content area, girls will vote on the actual badge topic (for example, Hiking, Camping, Trail Blazing, etc.), based on their grade level in the coming year.
Voting Time Line!
October 31 – November 30: Girls will vote on the content area they are interested in within the Outdoor Category. The choices will be Outdoor Recreation, Outdoor Environment or Outdoor Survival.
December 1 – December 31: Girls will vote on the actual badge topic (for example, Hiking, Camping, Trail Blazing, etc.) based on their grade level in the coming year.
March 12, 2015: The four Outdoor badges will be announced.
