Set on the beautiful End of the Trail Ranch in Perris, this is the third year for the Twilight Horse Camp under the guidance of volunteer Laurie Brown. This active horse ranch is the perfect setting for young horse lovers to learn the proper care and feeding of – you guessed it – horses!
Girls as young as Brownies to Caddetts can participate in every aspect of the ranch.
Lenore, End of the Trail’s owner, spends quality time with the girls each day, not only teaching them about horses, but showing girls what it takes to be a female business owner.
On the first day of camp, the girls are taught safety and the rules of the ranch. Afterwards, the fun begins!
The following sessions still have spaces available:
- July 21-25
- August 4-8
The day camp runs Monday thru Friday, 4pm to 8pm. The cost per girl is all inclusive at $90:
- Proper horse care – feeding, grooming, and tack.
- Proper riding techniques – each girl rides every day with a horse instructor. These are not “lead horses” rather trained riding horses. Girls learn to sit on a horse and saddle, as well as commands for guiding a horse. Each day girls have the opportunity to develop new skills, from properly directing a horse to learning to trot.
- Western crafts
- Snacks and water
- Sing campfire songs
- Perform skits and make new friends
One young camper said, “horses are so beautiful and they make my heart happy.” It was her first time being around a “real” horse!
Twilight Horse Camp offers continued leadership experience for younger and older girls. Many of the camp’s P.A.s are on their third year with Twilight. It is wonderful to see our older Girl Scouts assisting their younger sisters!
Remaining spots are limited. For more information email lakestarssam@hotmail.com. View pictures from this week’s first session of Twilight Horse Camp and 2012’s Ropin’ Ridin’ Horse Camp for a good idea of the facilities and fun!
