Now what? Figure it out early with Classroom to Career!

Have you heard of our Classroom to Career: Developing Tomorrow’s Female Leaders series? It is an exciting new program here at GSSGC. The program is generously sponsored in part by Bank of America. C2C launched in April with “Step Up: Become A Voice In Your Community” where older Girl Scouts participated in a two-part event.

The focus was leadership in the community; participating girls were mentored by local elected officials and leaders, including: Mayor of Colton Sarah Zamora, Colton City Clerk Eileen Gomez, SB City Councilwoman Virginia Marquez, SBCUSD Board Member Margaret Hill, SB County Supervisor Janice Rutherford, and SB City Clerk Gigi Hannah. During the second-half of the event, the teens conducted a mock city council meeting in San Bernardino City Hall. It was a huge success!

After the C2C experience, two girls entered into a mentoring relationship and one girl even landed a summer internship.

Wish you could have participated? Not to worry, as this opportunity has only just begun! Several more events have already been scheduled for this year, they include:

  • millennial-students
Make more informed decisions regarding your education and career choices, be a step ahead!

June 26, 2014 from 10AM to 1PM — San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department Tour and Lunch

  • July 16, 2014 from 9AM to 11AM — Rialto Fire Department Tour

  • Late July, actual date and time TBA — BNSF Railways Tour

The goal of each C2C event is to provide a “behind the scenes” look at government, retail, education, and transportation/logistics industries with the goal to expose you, the female leader of tomorrow,  to a variety of career paths and the educational requirements expected of each.

All Girl Scouts in junior high and high school are welcome. if you have a friend who would like to attend, but is not a Girl Scout, that’s no problem. Please contact Knea Kawley, GSSGC director of fund development, at KHawley@gssgc.org to include your friend or ask any additional questions. See you there!
