STUFF TO DO: “CircuSea” in Redlands and other ocean-themed weekend retreats from the heat!

Circusea_PosterWelcome weekend, oh, how we’ve missed you!

Today we are starting our “Stuff To Do” posts for Fridays, just in case your and your troop’s weekends were looking a little vacant. Today, we’re highlighting the 2014 74th Edition of the Great All American Youth Circus that starts today, Friday, May 2, and runs until May 18, 2014.

This year’s theme is “CircuSea Treasure,” which, despite its oddly difficult-to-pronounce name, is quite obviously nautical-based. The show promises, “to embark on a journey below the waves to find a hidden treasure.” Intriguing, yes indeed. Who doesn’t love a good treasure hunt?

Shows run Friday and Saturday evenings, and Sunday afternoons. Click for show times and to download the ticket order form.

The circus is a unique tradition to the Redlands YMCA, founded in 1929 by Roy Coble, a former Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey performer. Tickets are reasonably priced at $15 for adults and $10 for kids ages 3 to 12 years.

Of course, if you’re not a fan of young acrobats riding unicycles, then you may just want to head down to the actual ocean this weekend and check out the OC Marathon & Half Marathon kickoff at Newport Beach’s Fashion Island. There will also be a Wahoo’s 5K and kids’ 1 mile race open to the public. If you want to participate last minute, word on the street is registration is still open.

If you decide to go for any of these events, send us a pick and let us know how it went! Oh, and don’t forget to represent GSSGC in some way! We love it when you show off.
